Alf de Ruvo Memorial Foundation

The Alf de Ruvo Memorial Foundation awards scholarships to researchers within the sphere of cellulose-fibre-based materials. The amount of each scholarship is SEK 500,000.

SCA researchers from East Asia and IndiaThe foundation was formed in 2000 with funds donated in memory of Alf de Ruvo (1938 – 2000), Licentiate of Engineering and Executive Vice President of SCA.

His friends both within and outside the scientific community made the first contributions together with SCA to ensure a satisfactory annual yield.

Subject area

The purpose of the Foundation is to support forest industrial educational and research activities which promote the technical and scientific progress of the industry.

Nominations

The scholarships are appointed by the members of the Board of the Foundation in consultation with a research council. There is no application process.

Members of the Board: Tom Lindström (KTH/STFI-Packforsk), Anders Nyberg (Senior Vice President, SCA) and Ingemar Croon (consultant and researcher within the forest industry).

Research Council: Christer Söremark (consultant and researcher within the forest industry), professor Myat Htun (Mid Sweden University in Sundsvall), professor Gunilla Jönson (Principal of the Technical University of Lund) and professor Gunnar Svedberg (CEO STFI-Packforsk).

2004

Magnus Norgren, Senior researcher at the Mid Sweden University, Sundsvall

“His research work is a pioneer work to make possible the development of chemical pulp production in an effective and new way. In his work, he has applied fundamental physical chemistry to obtain an increased understanding of the properties and behaviour of the lignin during pulp production. This understanding can be expected to lead to new ways of formulating cooking and bleaching conditions in the production of chemical pulp.”

2002

Magnus Berggren, professor at Linköping University and CEO for the Fiber Optic Center Acreo

“The work undertaken to add electronic functions to paper is an excellent example of how it is possible, through unrestricted interdisciplinary research activities, to move rapidly from basic research to commercial applications with a practical use. The foundation values both the richness of ideas in applications within the Paella project and the manner of working and the speed in reaching the goal.”

2001

Matti Ristimaa, professor at the Technical University of Lund

”The scholarship is awarded in recognition of Matti Ristinmaa’s work in the field of constitutive modelling and his efforts to promote the use of such models for paper and board materials”.
